무민은 색깔은 희고 포동포동하며 주둥이가 커서 전반적으로 하마를 닮은 트롤(괴물)입니다. 이들은 핀란드의 숲 속에 있다는 무민의 골짜기에서 사는데, 동화 속에서 친구들과 함께 많은 모험을 합니다.
이 책에서는 무민 골짜기에 나타난 혜성의 이야기가 펼쳐집니다.
