오늘은 주라가 다니는 학교에서 "할머니 할아버지의 날" 행사를 합니다. 학생들은 할머니 할아버지를 학교로 모시고 와서, 왜 이분들이 특별한지를 학생들에게 소개하합니다.

알레자의 할아버지는 어부이고, 비수의 할머니는 치과 의사네요. 하지만 주라가 세상에서 제일 좋아하는 할머니는 여느 할머니들과는 조금 다른 모습입니다. 주라의 할머니인 나나 아쿠아는 서아프리카에 있는 가나에서 자랐고, 오래된 서아프리카 전통에 따라 얼굴에 부족 표시가 있습니다. 급우들이 할머니를 무서워하거나 혹은 할머니를 놀리지 않을까 걱정이 되어서 주라는 할머니를 학교에 데려오기를 주저합니다. 하지만 할머니는 손녀를 위해 무엇을 하는 것이 최선인지를 잘 알고 있습니다.

할머니는 전통적인 아프리카 문양들을 아이들 얼굴에 페이스 페인팅해주면서 이런 것이 자신을 특별하게 만드는 이유를 알게 해줍니다. 주라의 반 친구들도 모두 주라의 할머니인 나나 아쿠아가 얼마나 특별한지를 느낄 수 있었습니다.

문화적 다양성의 으ㅟ미를 이해하고 서로를 존중하는 것이 얼마나 중요한지를 깨닫게 해주는 내용입니다.
