아기 올빼미는 주변에 뭔가 큰 변화가 일어나고 있는 것을 느낄 수 있었어요.
나뭇잎들이 오렌지색에서 노란색, 그리고 갈색으로 변하더니 땅으로 떨어지기 시작했고,
기러기들이 떼를 지어 남쪽으로 날아가 버렸으며,
박쥐들은 동굴로 사라졌고,
애벌레들은 고치 속으로 몸을 숨겼어요.

곰들은 하루종일 먹으면서 추운 겨울을 대비하네요. 너구리는 곰들이 겨울내내 잠을 잘 거라고 말해줬어요.

태어나서 처음으로 겨울을 맞이하는 아기 올빼미에게 많은 동물들이 안녕 인사를 건네고는 겨울잠을 자러 집 안으로 들어갔어요. 이제 숲 속은 동물들이 사라져서 텅 빈 느낌입니다. 너구리와 아기 올빼미는 숨을 쉴 때마다 입에서 하얀 김이 나왔어요.

그때!!! 그 일이 벌어졌어요. 바로 하얀 눈이 내리기 시작한 거예요. 그리고는 곧 숲은 온통 하얗고 반짝이는 눈으로 덮여 버렸어요. 눈 위에는 동물들의 발자국이 나타나기 시작했지요.

엄마 올빼미는 고슴도치 친구를 그리워 하는 아기 올빼미에게 추운 겨울이 지나가면 눈이 녹고, 겨울잠을 자러 간 친구들이 다시 돌아 올 거라고 말해 주네요...
