Book Description
Now kids can learn all about this delicious fruit-from grafting young apple trees to the transformation from apple blossom to full-grown apple! With clear, simple text and bright, charming artwork, this Station Stop 1 easy reader is perfect for every kid who loves apples. Illustrated by Tammy Smith.
Children's Literature
Apples are a treat that we probably take for granted, but there is a lot behind the actual development and growth of an apple. In this "All Aboard Science Reader," kids will learn that apples come in a variety of colors (red, green and yellow) and that some are sweet and others are tart. Apples do grow on trees and the trees do start from seeds, but a farmer grafts a branch of the type of apple he wants to grow to make sure that the tree will produce the right type of fruit. It takes a few years for the tree to grow and for the first blossoms to appear. The fruit grows all during the summer and by fall it is ready to harvest. "Lift, twist, pluck...crunch! It's yummy!" The reason for grafting is only mention by saying that planting an apple seed may not produce the results desired. Kids who want to know more will need to check out other resources, but it is fine for those in pre school and the first grades of elementary school. A Station Stop 1 book for those beginning to read. |
