Young readers can learn about what the sun is and why it is important to us in this colorful book. It explains that our sun is a daytime star and is much bigger than Earth and much farther away than the moon. The composition and heat of the sun are described on a bright page of golds, oranges, and reds while the fate of the Earth without the sun is on a dark page of blacks, grays and silvers. The reader learns that the sun, or solar energy, keeps us alive and that ancient solar energy stored in coal and oil is the fuel we use for cars, trucks, airplanes and rockets. The book ends with two easy and interesting projects. One proves to a child that plants need sunlight and the other shows how the Earth moves around the sun and casts shadows that can be used to tell time. K-Gr 2 This new edition features lively and inviting illustrations by Madden. Unfortunately, the drawings take some poetic license and portray the sun spewing out what look like flames. Since the sun isn't on fire there isn't enough oxygen this is misleading to young readers. This one error is more than compensated for by Branley's enthusiastic description of our sun. Sprinkled throughout the text are lots of gee-whiz facts to keep children interested. In addition, a simple experiment, showing the importance of light on plant growth, demonstrates the connections between life on Earth and our sun. There is even a mention of solar energy. Gr 1-2-The third edition of this title pairs bright, computer-produced cartoon art with a basic discussion of the sun and its importance to life on this planet. The pictures and text work closely together to impart such information as how large, hot, and distant the sun is, and how its energy is stored, not only in the foods we eat, but also in the fossil fuels we use. 우리아에겐 아직 너무 어려운책이지만 이 시리즈가 다 좋다는 말을 듣고 미리 구매해두었어요..
아이가 아니라도 어른이 봐도 좋을 것 같아서요. 졸업한지 오래되어서 그런지 학교에서 배웠던 지구과학 쪽은 영 자..

아이가 아니라도 어른이 봐도 좋을 것 같아서요. 졸업한지 오래되어서 그런지 학교에서 배웠던 지구과학 쪽은 영 자신이 없네요..
저는 무거운 보드북보다 가벼운 페이퍼북을 더 좋아해요. 아이가 책을 잘 찢지 않는 아이라 가볍고 편한 책을 더 선호하게 되었네요.. 오래두고 볼 수 있는 책이라 조금 더 튼튼했으면 하는 바람이지만 만족해요.
앞으로도 이시리즈 눈여겨 봐야겠어요

 감탄사가 나옵니다 |
전 이책 시리즈 1단계 책 한권을 가지고 있는데 책이 너무 좋아서 보이는 쪽쪽
구매하는데 the sun 책은 2단계라 너무 어렵지 않을까 첨엔 좀 망설였어요
일단 가격도 저렴하고 해서 샀는데요 책을보고 전 어쩜 ..

예쁘게 만들었을까 감탄사가 절로 나옵니다.
아이가 아직 어려서 지금 활용은 못하지만 제가 두고두고 읽어보는 책이 됐네요
태양에 대한 배경지식이 조금있다면 충분히 읽힐수 있는 책입니다.

어두운 밤에는 별을 볼 수 있죠.
밝은 하늘에서도 별을 볼 수 있답니다. 그게 바로 태양이죠.
우리와 가장 가까운 곳에 있는 행성이랍니다.
우리 지구를 완두콩 크기라고 가정하면 태양은 비치볼 크기로 ..

우리와 가장 가까운 곳에 있는 행성이랍니다.
우리 지구를 완두콩 크기라고 가정하면 태양은 비치볼 크기로 무척 커요.
직경이 거의 백만마일정도 된답니다.
태양은 멀기도해요. 우주선을 타고 달에 가는데 3일이 걸리면,
태양엔 3년이 걸려야 도착할 수 있답니다.
그래도 태양이 가장 가까운 행성이라고 말한 건 기억하시죠.
빛이 태양에서 지구까지 오는데 8분이 걸리지만
밤에 볼 수 있는 행성 중 가장 가까운 곳까지는 4년이나 걸린답니다.
다른 행성들은 그보다 훨씬 더 멀리 있지요.
태양은 뜨거운 가스들로 이루어져있어요.
태양과 여타 행성들에는 철, 금, 구리, 주석들이 있어요.
하지만 지구에서처럼 고체 상태가 아니랍니다.
행성들은 무척 뜨겁기 때문에 모두 기체로 되어있어요.
태양 표면의 온도는 화씨 10,000도 (약 섭씨 4717도)가 넘어요.
뜨거운 오븐이 화씨 500도 밖에 되지 않으니까 엄청 뜨거운 거예요.
만약 우주선이 태양에 가까이 간다면 너무 뜨겁기 때문에 기체로 변해버릴 거예요.
태양이 없으면 지구는 춥고 어두울 거예요.
식물이나 동물, 곤충, 새, 꽃들은 자랄 수가 없지요.
어떤 것도 생존할 수 없어요.
태양은 우리를 살아있게 하죠.
식물들을 자라게 하고, 동물들은 그 식물들을 먹고,
우리는 그 동물과 식물들을 먹어요.
거기에서 에너지를 얻는 거예요.
그러니까 식물 속의 에너지들은 태양에서부터 온 거죠.
태양 에너지예요.
수백만년전에 지구는 늪지대와 정글로 가득했어요.
동식물들이 자라면서 태양에너지를 축적해두었죠.
그리고 이 동식물들이 죽었을때 천천히 석탄이나 석유로 변했어요.
그래서 고대의 태양에너지들은 석탄이나 석유에 저장되어있죠.
오늘날 우리들은 석탄, 석유, 석유로 만든 휘발유등의 축적된 태양 에너지들을
차나, 트럭, 비행기, 로켓등의 원료로 사용하고 있어요.
수백만년동안 태양은 우리 지구를 덥혀왔어요.
지금도 여전히 그렇죠.
그리고 앞으로도 수백만년동안 밝게 빛나고 우리 지구를 따뜻하게 할 거예요.
