오늘은 그동안 사용했던 어린이 침대 대신, 새로운 큰 침대에서 자는 날입니다. 엄마는 옛날에 입던 옷가지, 덮었던 이불조각 등을 이용해서 Quilt 이불을 만들어 주셨어요. 퀼트 이불 위에 누워서 조각천 하나하나를 들여다보니 언제 사용했던 천인지를 알 수 있었지요. 내가 가장 좋아했던 바지조각, 두살 때 입었던 셔츠조각, 방의 커텐조각... 천 조각 하나하나가 어린 시절의 추억을 담고 있어요. 그러다 스르르 잠이 듭니다. 꿈 속에서 천조각들은 마을로 변하고, 잃어버린 강아지 Sally를 찾아 서커스장, 정원, 동굴, 바닷가를 찾아 헤맵니다.... 행복한 꿈은 아니지만 아마도 생소한 큰 침대에 누워서 과거 어린 시절의 추억조각들로 만든 이불을 덮고 자면서, 애벌레가 탈피의 고통을 겪듯이 성장의 아픔을 겪는 것이 꿈으로 나타나나 봅니다...

The illustrations are excellent. The quilt is very colorful and the child's clothing, hair and skin colors are soft and pleasing to the eye. It is a pleasure to read a beautiful book with a Black child as its protagonist. This book would make a wonderful gift for any youngster. |
