The familiar Greek myths of Persephone, King Midas and How Perseus Killed the Gorgon are clearly told and well illustrated; The Iroquois tale relating to the naming of the winds was the only one new to me. For younger children, these tales, which have been told for centuries, can be read aloud; older children will enjoy reading them on their own. There are tales of greed, generosity, bravery and cleverness. The stories feature men, women, boys and girls, so it is a collection that should appeal to any reader. Watercolor illustrations of varying sizes fill the pages, offering another way for kids to enjoy the stories. |
