Down by the Station은 영어를 배우면서 가장 먼저 배우는 노래 중에 하나입니다. 그만큼 많은 아이들이 즐겨 부르며 좋아하는 노래죠.
Down by the Station는 원래 기차를 주제로 한 노래이지만, 이 책에서는 기차 뿐 아니라 트럭, 버스, 소방차, 택시 등 아이들이 좋아하는 차의 종류를 뽑아서 그에 맞게 개사해서 부를 수 있게 했습니다. 또한 차에서 나는 여러 가지 소리를 의성어로 다양하게 표현하여 아이들이 좀 더 재미있고 흥겹게 따라 부를 수 있습니다. 각 페이지마다 구멍이 뚫려 있어서 페이지를 한장씩 넘길 때 마다 새로운 교통수단들이 한가지씩 새로 나타나는 재미있는 책입니다.

Teachers often bemoan the loss of interest in nursery rhymes because they have traditionally been one of the earliest listening and learning experiences for children. They prepare youngsters for the notions of pattern and rhyme. They are often repetitive, which is both comforting and instructive. They are usually silly, adding an element of humor that makes reading fun. Now some of the favorite nursery rhymes and songs have become small board books with holes. In this case, one main hole shows the train on each page. Holes are added to show the trucks, buses and cars that are featured in additional verses. The illustration of the train station is repeated on each page along with a hole to show the new addition. With the train tracks and all the buildings, there are lots of shapes to find (squares, rectangles, triangles).
