The girl, attached by a silvery ribbon to the oversize paper-over-board book, curls up on a crescent moon on the cover. Readers can insert the heroine in various scenes including a campsite, bird's nest or scallop shell.
Children's Literature
Looking as if a child like Eloise drew it, this pop-up, lift-the-flap, turn-the-wheel, slip-the-sleeping-child-on-a-string-into-the-slot book is an either you like it, or you don't affair. It arrives with a cutout picture of a sleeping child on a silver ribbon tucked into a quarter moon on the cover. The ten double-page spreads all have black backgrounds, as does the cover, indicating nighttime and the sleeping hours. The premise is imagining different and wonderful places where the child reader/listener might like to go to sleep. Inside a tent? In a flower? On an elephant's back? The slits on each page, into which the sleeping child cut-out may be inserted, are indicated by a star, which is not always easy to find; and it is often necessary to bend the page a little to make the slit available. Very imaginative and unusual. |
