Here is a new Goldie who knows exactly what she likes and what she doesn't in life, which makes some things difficult for her. But when she loves something, it is "with all her heart." Her parents worry because she is happy without friends to play with. But Goldie only wants someone she can love "with all her heart." One day she gets off the bus at the wrong stop and arrives at a house where she has a rather familiar set of experiences finding a sandwich, a chair, and a bed that is "just right." The arrival of three bears, however, makes for a very different, happy ending. For Baby Bear turns out to be the friend Goldie is seeking who is "just right." Goldie is an appealing, curly-headed heroine painted in detailed settings appropriate to the story. Sequential vignettes of action are mixed with larger scenes of her sometimes humorous adventures. The teddy bears on the end papers, obviously something she loves, are like the one that accompanies her everywhere and is perhaps symbolic of the friend Goldie finds at last.

One of Goldilocks's qualities-her desire to have things "just right"-is extended into a charming story. "It was hard work finding the perfect hat, a really comfortable sweater, or shoes that didn't pinch her toes. But it was worth the effort, because when Goldie loved something, she loved it with all her heart." What's missing in her life is just the right friend. One day, she gets off the bus at the wrong stop and wanders into a little brick house at the end of a winding path. What she finds there will bring a smile to every child who is looking for a friend who's "not too bossy," "Not too boring," and "Not too snobby or silly or rough." The writing is smooth, concise, and rhythmic. The author's voice peeks through now and then, adding an understated humor that kids will love. "When she had finished the book, Goldie peeked into the next room. It will not surprise you to learn that she found three beds in there." And the pictures are marvelous, with fine lines; soft, glowing colors; and winsome, telling details. Many contemporary retellings of familiar fairy tales are successful in a clever way, but this goes beyond clever to also have real substance. A 24-carat selection for many children, especially those who like things just so.

Stanley reinvents another familiar tale, this one in a modern setting. Goldie's finicky about her food, clothes, and friends, but when she finds something just right, she loves it "with all her heart." One day she steps off the school bus at the wrong stop, and, looking for a place to call her mom, finds an invitingly empty house. Confident but not spoiled-looking beneath her great mane of curly hair, Goldie comes off as a child with a natural streak of curiosity. While waiting for the house's residents to show up, she samples the sandwiches on the kitchen table, finds a chair in which to snuggle down with a favorite book, and then checks out the bedroom. A family of bears in dowdy-looking clothing appears-but when the furious baby bear tries to bounce Goldie out of bed, the two discover the pleasures of bed-bouncing, and instantly hit it off. "She's just right!" Goldie happily proclaims to her mother on the later drive home. So is the tone of this imaginative update. |

책 받은 이후로 하루도 빼놓치 않고 읽고 있습니다.
사실, 저희 딸은 서양 전래동화인 'Goldilocks and the three bears'는 무서워서 별로 좋아하지 않아요.

엄마인 저도, 5살인 저희 딸도 완전히 반한 책입니다.
책 받은 이후로 하루도 빼놓치 않고 읽고 있습니다.
사실, 저희 딸은 서양 전래동화인 'Goldilocks and the three bears'는 무서워서 별로 좋아하지 않아요.
편안히 잠들어 있던 Goldilocks이 곰들의 출현에 놀라 도망치는 장면을 무서워 하거든요.
그래서 이 책의 구입시 약간 망설였지만 그림이 너무 마음에 들어서 구입하였습니다.
조심스럽게 책을 보여 주었는데 딸도 자기 또래의 귀여운 여자 아이 그림을 보고 완전 반했습니다.
'Goldilocks and the three bears'를 패러디 했기 때문에 사실, 줄거리는 조금 단순하게 보일 수 있을거 같아요.
그런데 포인트는 주인공 Goldie는 좋아하고 싫어하는 것이 아주 분명한 성격에,
한 번 좋아한 것은 온 마음을 다해(with all her heart) 좋아한다는 것입니다.
뭘 한 번 고르려면 답답할 정도로(^^) 많은 시간이 걸리고 한 번 뭔가를 좋아하면 푹 빠져 버리는 저희 딸과
너무나 비슷한 모습이라 저도 스토리가 너무 와 닿고 저희 딸도 많은 공감을 느끼는 듯 합니다.
결국 마지막에 주인공 Goldie는 little bear 소녀와 축이 척척 맞는 best friend가 됩니다.
온 마음을 다해(with all her heart) 서로 좋아하는 그런 친구 말이죠.
주인공 Goldie와 little bear의 모습이 너무 귀엽고, 자고 있는 Goldie에게 뛰어 드는 little bear의 표정이
압권이예요.
이 책을 읽은 후로 저도 딸아이에게 자주 말합니다.
"I love you with all my heart" 라구요.

 그림도 이쁘지만 내용이 참 좋은책.. |
주변에 Goldie같은 사람들이 간혹 있죠..
왠지 좀 피곤해보이고 까칠하고 깐깐해서 가까이하기에 불편한 사람..
이 책 처음 몇 페이지를 읽을때는 주위에 Goldie같은 사람이 있다면 왠지 친해지기가 쉽지 않겠구나..
주변에 Goldie같은 사람들이 간혹 있죠..
왠지 좀 피곤해보이고 까칠하고 깐깐해서 가까이하기에 불편한 사람..
이 책 처음 몇 페이지를 읽을때는 주위에 Goldie같은 사람이 있다면 왠지 친해지기가 쉽지 않겠구나..싶더군요.
그런데 책을 다 읽고 나니 또 다른 뭔가를 생각하게 되더군요.
누군가는그를 까다로운 성격, 그래서 피곤한 사람이라고 표현할지 모르지만..
그런 사람또한 자신과 맘이 통하는 누군가를 만나게 된다면 서로에게 더할 나위없이 친한 친구가 될 수 있으며,
차이가 있다면 무난한 성격의 사람들은 많은 친구를 보다 쉽게 사귈 수 있는 반면,
Goldie같은 사람들은 더 많은 시간이 필요하고 그래서 외로움도 더 타지 않을까..싶더군요.
여튼 책 내용중...
이런 저런 이유로 생일에 초대할 친구가 한 명도 없는 Goldie..
엄마, 아빠는 그런 Goldie가 걱정이되어 '세상에 그 누구도 완벽한 사람은 없다'라고 합니다.
그러나 Goldie는 "나는 완벽한 사람을 원하는게 아니라
내가 진심으로 좋아할 수 있는 맘이 맞는 그 누군가를 원할 뿐.." 이라고 대답합니다.
전 왠지 이 부분이 참 맘에 와닿더군요.

 그림이 너무 예뻐요. |
사실 우리 아이 성격이 좀 까탈스러운 편이라, 쉽게 친구를 사귀지 못하고
이것 저것 트집이 많아서 이 책을 선택하게 되었는데요, 이 책을 읽는 순간
바로 Goldie의 성격이 제 성격과 넘 똑같아서 깜짝 놀랐답니..
사실 우리 아이 성격이 좀 까탈스러운 편이라, 쉽게 친구를 사귀지 못하고
이것 저것 트집이 많아서 이 책을 선택하게 되었는데요, 이 책을 읽는 순간
바로 Goldie의 성격이 제 성격과 넘 똑같아서 깜짝 놀랐답니다.
울 아이가 제 성격을 그대로 닮은 거네요.^^
책 속의 Goldie는 넘 귀엽고 앙증맞은 금발 곱슬머리의 유치원 다니는 소녀구요
음식을 먹을 때도, 토스트 껍질 없어야 하고, 피넛 버터는 듬뿍 발라져야 하고,
흰색 빵이어야 하고, jelly를 뺀 것이어야 하구, 친구를 고를때도 잘난체 하는 친구도
싫고, 말없는 친구도 그리고 너무 거친 친구도 싫지요. 옷을 고를때도 너무 딱 맞는
것도 싫고, 따끈거리는 스웨터도 싫구...침대는 넘 딱딱하지도 넘 물렁거리지도 않는
적당히 폭신 거리는 침대여야 하구요...
그러던 어느날 스쿨버스에서 잘못 내려 bear 가족의 빈 집으로 들어가게 되고
거기서 자기랑 똑같은 taste를 가진 아기 bear를 만나 신나게 놀게 되지요.
꿈이 아니고 현실입니다. goldie는 좋아하는 것을 찾기는 어렵지만, 일단
찾게 되면 너무 좋아하게 되지요. with all heart...
저는 Goldie의 성격을 다소 원만한 성격으로 바꿔줄 해답이나 힌트가 나와 있으리라
기대를했는 데, 그런게 없어서 다소 서운하긴 하지만, 자신에게 꼭 맞는 친구를 찾았다는
점에서 위안을 삼아야 겠네요.
