그런데 아기코끼리 엘리는 자신은 아무 재능이 없어서 동물원에 도움이 되지 않는다고 생각했어요. 그러다 우연히 페인트붓을 줍게 되고, 이 붓으로 비어있는 벽에 멋진 해바라기 그림을 그렸어요. 이 모습을 본 동물원 관리인은 엘리에게 여러 색깔의 페인트를 가져다 주고 원하는대로 그림을 그려보라고 했지요. 엘리는 동물원 이곳저곳을 화려한 그림으로 채워나가기 시작했어요. 그리고 여러 동물들의 모습도 그렸지요.

엘리의 놀라운 재능에 관한 소문은 삽시간에 퍼져서 사람들이 몰려들기 시작하고, 엘리에게 자신의 초상화를 그려달라는 사람들도 늘어 났습니다. 엘리는 놀라운 그림 실력으로 많은 상을 받게 되고, 전 세계 사람들이 엘리가 그림을 그리는 모습을 보기 위해 동물원을 방문하게 되었습니다. 그리고 많은 관람객이 방문하게 되면서 동물원은 다시 문을 열게 되었습니다
