Book Description

With die-cut pictorial tabs along the right-hand margin, children can point to the picture of an animal or object of interest to them, then turn to that spread and find out interesting facts through easy-to-understand captions and stunning, photo-realistic paintings.

Part of the "First Discovery Look-It-Up" series, this sturdy, tabbed board book examines the seasons that many children will experience. Young readers will learn that a year has four seasons. The cycle is illustrated through a cherry tree, and the book opens with spring. During this season the tree is filled with blossoms and the weather gets warmer, then summer comes with hotter days and big ripe cherries on the tree. When fall comes the leaves turn yellow, orange and red, as the days get cooler. Finally winter arrives with cold weather and the tree has no more leaves and may even be covered in snow. In addition to the tree cycle, the text also describes the parallel cycle of a bird that makes its nest in the tree. This book has the look and feel of the DK style--bright white pages, crisp images and a lucid text with facts but not so much that it overwhelms the new readers. The tabs serve as an index to let kids pick a section and read the selections in any order they choose. A nice way to provide interaction and some degree of control over the learning experience. |
