고양이에게 들키지 않으려 하얀색 종이 위에 있던 똑똑한 휜 쥐 세 마리가 고양이가 잠든 사이 빨강, 노랑, 파랑 색의 페인트 통을 발견하면서 일어나는 에피소드입니다.
기본적인 3원색(빨강, 노랑, 파랑)과 이 색들이 석여서 만들어 내는 혼합색(주황색, 녹색, 보라색)에 대해서 재미있게 배울 수 있습니다.
각각의 색깔 통에 들어간 휜 쥐들은 빨간 쥐, 노란 쥐, 파란 쥐로 변신합니다. 쏟아진 페인트로 웅덩이가 만들어지자, 그 안에 들어가 재미있게 놉니다, 노란 색 웅덩이에서 춤을 추던 빨간 쥐가 자신의 색깔을 뚝뚝 흘려 자신의 다리와 웅덩이를 주황색으로 바꾸어 놓습니다. 재미를 느끼자, 노란 쥐가 파란 웅덩이에 들어가 자신의 다리와 웅덩이의 색을 초록색으로 바꾸어 놓습니다. 또 빨간색 웅덩이에 들어간 파란 쥐는 보라색으로 변한답니다.
실컷 놀고 난 쥐들은 하얀색으로 끈적거리는 몸을 씻어 다시 이전의 하얀색 쥐로 돌아옵니다. 그리고 나서는 다시 종이를 위에 빨강 ,노랑, 파랑뿐만 아니라 그들이 만들어낸 주황색, 초록색, 보라색으로 칠합니다. 하지만 고양이에게 들키지 않으려 여전히 종이의 일부를 휜색으로 남겨놓는 것을 잊지 않는 똑똑한 쥐들이 참 귀엽게 느껴지는 재미있는 책입니다.

It's not surprising that this book has won practically every children's book award there is. It's one of the most imaginative presentations ever on the subject of colors. When three white mice discover three jars of paint-one red, one yellow and one blue-each climbs right in. The red mouse finds that if he steps in a yellow puddle and does a little dance, his paint puddle turns orange. And so it goes with the other mice as they create green and purple respectively. But the mice must still return to their original white color so they can hide on white paper where the cat can't find them. - Marilyn Bagel
