Book Description
Little Bear and Emily have nothing to do while it's raining, so they decide to throw a wedding party for their favorite toys.
About the Author
Else Holmelund Minarik first introduced readers to her timeless character in the classic Little Bear. The book's publication, with illustrations by Maurice Sendak, launched the I Can Read series. This much-loved author continues to write stories for children at her home in New Hampshire.
Children's Literature
A rainy afternoon does not keep Little Bear and his friend Emily from making the most of their day. After drawing a few pictures, Emily suggests putting together a wedding for her doll Lucy and Little Bear's toy Fisherman Bear. Little Bear agrees and the planning begins. A knock at the door brings two more guests, Duck and Owl, to share in this special event. Owl receives the honor of giving the wedding speech. He forgets an important part, however, and when he remembers to ask if anyone objects, Emily speaks out and says that Lucy is too young. Little Bear agrees that Fisherman Bear is also too young, and the wedding is off. The two toys are better off as friends and to celebrate friendship, everyone shares in a time of cake and dancing. From artists to wedding planners, Little Bear and Emily share in a delightful time of rainy day fun. This story is one of several in Maurice Sendak's "Little Bear" series. It would be useful for any preschool setting, especially for units on bears, toys, weddings and family, and rainy day activities. |
