유명한 세마리 돼지형제 이야기를 입장을 반대로 설정하여 재해석한 책입니다. 원문에서는 아기 돼지들이 늑대에게 괴롭힘을 당하고 늑대는 정말 못된 동물로 묘사되었죠? 이 책에서는 아기 늑대 3형제가 나쁜 돼지에게 괴롭힘을 당한답니다. 발상의 전환~ 원작과는 다른 새로운 기분이 느껴집니다.
어느날 엄마 늑대는 병이 위중해지자 아기 늑대 3형제를 불러 크고 나쁜(Bad) 돼지로부터 형제들을 보호할 튼튼한 집을 직접 지으라고 이야기합니다. 그래서 아기 늑대 3형제는 길을 떠납니다. 아기 늑대 3형제는 합심하여 튼튼한 벽돌집을 만들지만 나쁜 돼지의 입김에 날아가버리고.. 다시 콘크리트로 집을 짓지만 이번에는 드릴로 집을 부숩니다. 그래서 다시 철사와 철판 등으로 아주 튼튼하게 짓습니다. 집에 들어가지 못하게 된 나쁜 돼지는 앗!!!... 다이너마이트를 터트립니다. 겨우 탈출한 아기 늑대 3형제는 꽃으로 집을 짓습니다. 그런데 이번에는 나쁜 돼지의 반응이 틀리네요. 꽃 향기를 깊게 깊게 맡은 돼지는 마음도 따뜻하게 변합니다. 그래서 착한(Good) 돼지가 됩니다. 처음에는 걱정하던 늑대 형제들도 돼지가 정말로 변했다는 것을 깨닫고 함께 놀이를 하고.. 마침내 집에 초대합니다.
원작과는 내용이나 결말이 상이하기 때문에 읽으면서 많은 흥미를 일으킵니다. 특히 마지막에 나쁜 돼지가 마음을 고쳐먹고 아기 늑대 3형제와 화해하는 모습이 마음을 흐믓하게 합니다.
"We're Going on a Bear Hunt," "Farmer Duck" 등 베스트셀러 저자인 Helen Oxenbury가 그림을 그렸습니다.

표지가 두꺼운 판지나 보드지가 아닌 비교적 얇은 종이를 사용해서 만든 책이며, 실박음질 대신에 풀로 제본처리하는 경우가 많습니다. 일반적으로 하드커버나 보드북에 비해서 가격이 저렴합니다. 소프트커버로 불리우기도 합니다. 책의 이음새 부분이 접히거나 휘는 내구성이 그리 좋지는 않은 책입니다.

In a clever switch on the familiar counterparts, these sweet-faced innocents use brick, concrete, and steel constructions, but their nemesis is not called big and bad for nothing. With sledgehammer, pneumatic drill, and dynamite, the pig wrecks each structure. ``Something must be wrong with our building materials,'' the wolves muse. Their final house is build from flowers, insubstantial yet beautiful. It is their lovely scent that causes the pig to change his nasty ways and all live together as friends happily ever after. The text has the repeating situations and phrases from the traditional version. Oxenbury's pastel watercolor illustrations combine the coziness of a nursery tale with tongue-in-cheek humor. They are animated and full of personality. Children familiar with The Three Little Pigs will enjoy the turnabout, the narrow escapes, and the harmonious ending.
