음울한 구름이 낮게 깔린 도시에 눈꽃송이 하나가 떨어집니다. 창가에 있던 소년과 개는 눈꽃송이를 발견하고는 "눈이다!!!" 소리치며 길거리로 뛰어 나갑니다. 아빠는 눈이 내리지 않을 것이라고 하지요. 2개, 3개의 눈 꽃송이가 하늘에서 떨어지고, 소년은 "눈이 온다"라고 소리치며 길거리를 뛰어 다니지만 지나가는 어른들은 관심도 없습니다. 라디오와 TV에서는 눈이 내리지 않을 것이라고 예보를 합니다. 길거리에 떨어진 몇개의 눈꽃송이는 곧 녹아버리고 말지요. 하지만 곧이어 몇 개의 눈꽃송이가 더 떨어지고... 떨어지는 눈이 점점 많아지더니... 결국은 온세상을 하얗게 덮을 만큼 많은 눈이 내립니다. 어둡고 음울했던 구름이 사라지고, 푸른 하늘 아래 마치 새로운 세상이 펼쳐진 듯리 하얗게 변한 도시의 모습이 눈부십니다.
단순한 문장과 수채화 그림... 그러나 페이지를 넘길수록 눈이 내리기를 간절히 바라는 마음이 긴장감을 불러 일으킵니다. 어두운 회색빛의 도시와 하늘 색조가 갑자기 눈부시게 하얗고 파~란 색으로 바뀌는 마지막 페이지의 반전도 볼만 합니다. 무더운 여름날에 겨울을 그리워하게 만드는 멋진 그림책입니다.
CD에는 한 페이지 단위로 천천히 읽어주기와 책 전체 내용 읽어주기가 수록되어 있습니다. 부드러운 음악을 배경으로 성우의 목소리 연기가 실감나게 녹음되어 있습니다.

표지가 두꺼운 판지나 보드지가 아닌 비교적 얇은 종이를 사용해서 만든 책이며, 실박음질 대신에 풀로 제본처리하는 경우가 많습니다. 일반적으로 하드커버나 보드북에 비해서 가격이 저렴합니다. 소프트커버로 불리우기도 합니다. 책의 이음새 부분이 접히거나 휘는 내구성이 그리 좋지는 않은 책입니다.
