이른 아침부터 제멋대로인 왕이 목욕탕의 욕조에서 나올 생각을 하지 않습니다. 아침에는 기사가, 점심때는 왕비가, 저녁때는 귀족이, 밤에는 신하들이 왕을 설득해 보겠다고 목욕탕으로 들어가지만 모두 실패하고 맙니다. 하지만 왕을 욕조에서 나오게 하는 방법은 의외로 아주 간단하답니다. 마지막의 반전이 웃음을 자아냅니다.
Wood 부부의 치밀한 고증과 이에 따른 섬세한 그림으로 르네상스시대의 화려한 의상과 전투모습, 식탁차림, 가장무도회 복장 등 다양한 풍습을 재현했습니다. 시간의 흐름에 따라 변하는 색조 및 그림자의 위치 등에서 작가의 작품을 완성하기 위한 지극한 정성을 엿볼 수 있습니다. 문장은 반복적이며 이해하기 쉽습니다.

표지가 두꺼운 판지나 보드지가 아닌 비교적 얇은 종이를 사용해서 만든 책이며, 실박음질 대신에 풀로 제본처리하는 경우가 많습니다. 일반적으로 하드커버나 보드북에 비해서 가격이 저렴합니다. 소프트커버로 불리우기도 합니다. 책의 이음새 부분이 접히거나 휘는 내구성이 그리 좋지는 않은 책입니다.

Audrey and Don Wood seem to enjoy their work. In their book 'The NappingHouse' {BRD 1985} and in this latest creation they express an exuberance thatis quite infectious. . . . The bathtub scenes are clearly the most fun, so that when the Page, as hero, puts an end to the merriment (and does it in a rather lackluster manner)--we're disappointed. Instead of cheering the Page for his resourcefulness, we resent him. Another element disturbed me. All the characters are painted to look as if they are overacting. In a farce, even a broad farce, such elaboration is deadly. Combined with language like 'glub, glub, glub' or 'yum, yum, yum' one senses a failure to be truthful to the lighthearted nature of the story.

The story is rhythmically told with a few lines to each page and an imaginative assortment of detail in double-spread oil paintings dominated by purple and blue. Perhaps the fishing scene is most memorable, with trout arching over waterlilies and a perplexed duke struggling with hook and worm. Some tub.

마지막에 왕을 욕조에서 나오게 하는 방법은 너무 간단하네요. ㅋㅋ

중독성 있는 문장,
신나는 뮤지컬이 녹음된 CD...
정말 멋진 책이에요.

전 우드 부부 책중 HECKEDY PEG 다음으로 요책을 좋아하는데요.
그림이 정말 끝내줍니다...어떻게 이렇게까지 생동감있게 그려내는지 놀라울 뿐이죠.
이책 주인공인 소년은 실제로 우드 부부의 아들과 똑같이 생겼..
전 우드 부부 책중 HECKEDY PEG 다음으로 요책을 좋아하는데요.
그림이 정말 끝내줍니다...어떻게 이렇게까지 생동감있게 그려내는지 놀라울 뿐이죠.
이책 주인공인 소년은 실제로 우드 부부의 아들과 똑같이 생겼다고도 하더군요.
개인적으로 오디오 씨디는 연극 한편을 귀로 듣는것 같은 느낌이에요...확 잡아끌진 않는데...
엄마가 생동감있게 잘 읽어준후 씨디 틀어주면 잘 들을것도 같아요.
이책 있을때 구입하세요....아이의 눈높이를 높여주세요.^^

그림을 보고 아이들이 금방 알아 보더군요.
그림도 너무 예쁘고 얼굴 표정이 사실감이 넘칩니다. 이 책을 보면 하루가 어떻게 지나가는 지 알 수 있습니
다. 그리고 반복구로 되어있어서 아이들이 이해하기 쉽고 재미있습니다.
그리고 욕조안에서 왠만한 활동을 하는 왕의 모습을 상상하는 재미와 마지막에
이 일을 해결한 한 소년의 재치있는 해결 방법이 아이들을 즐겁게 해주는 책입니다.
