새로운 마을에 이사 온 토끼 오길비는 새로운 친구들을 사귀기 위해 공원에 갔다가 많은 토끼들이 그림을 그리거나, 뜨게질을 하거나, 야구놀이를 하거나, 언덕오르기 놀이를 하고 있는 것을 발견합니다.

오길비가 공원에 들어갔을 때, 모든 토끼들이 하던 일을 멈추고 오길비를 뚫어져라 쳐다보네요. 이 토끼들은 왜 이러는 걸까요? 그런데 이 마을에는 엄격한 규칙이 있답니다. 어떤 옷을 입었냐에 따라서 무슨 활동을 해야하는지 정해져 있다는 것.

드레스를 입고 있으면 야구놀이와 뜨게질만 할 수 있고,
스웨터를 입고 있으면 그림그리기와 언덕오르기 놀이만 할 수 있다는 규칙이 있다고 하네요.

오길비는 이 규칙이 터무니없다고 생각했지만, 일단 야구놀이를 하고 싶었으므로 자신은 드레스를 입고 있다고 말했지요.

그날부터 오길비는 똑같은 옷을 입고 나갔지만, 야구놀이나 뜨게질을 하고 싶을 때는 드레스를 입고 있다고 말하고, 그림그리기나 언덕오르기를 하고 싶을 때는 스웨터를 입고 있다고 주장했어요.

하지만 이런 오길비의 행동에 대해서 토끼들은 불만을 갖기 시작했고, 어느날 토끼들은 오길비를 둘러싸고 스웨터나 드레스 중 하나만 선택하라고 말했습니다. 이말을 듣고 한참을 고심하던 오길비는 드디어 결심을 하고는 자신의 목소리를 내기로 했습니다. 그리고 왜 이런 터무니 없는 규칙에 매달려 살아야 하는지 다른 토끼들을 설득하기 시작했지요. 그 결과는...
