"The big sleepy man yawned a great big yawn / and the little sleepy man yawned a sleepy little yawn. Margaret Wise Brown fans will hear echoes from The Little Fireman in the text, which evidently appears here for the first time. The big sleepy man and the little sleepy man (a boy) go to their beds, where the former tells the latter a story about "the little boy Man in the Moon," who went to sleep each night "and dreamed he was the Man in the Moon." Gray, blue, brown, pink, and tan predominate in the sophisticated acrylic-and-ink illustrations. The dream sequences, far from the conventions of pastel, pastoral scenes, feature dynamic brush strokes and expressive, sometimes abstract scenes of the boy floating/flying to the sun, moon, stars, and planets.
