The backyard exploration begun with In the Tall, Tall Grass continues here with Fleming's latest picture-book peek at nature. The animals and insects that live on and in a freshwater pond wiggle, waddle, hover, swoop and swirl through the stunning spreads--and through the seasons of the year. Fish, frogs and fowl cavort first in the vibrant greens and yellows of spring and summer, then on through fiery autumn reds and oranges and, finally, amid barren browns and icy whites as winter sets in. Young children are introduced to the basic habits of common North American wildlife and to the characteristics of the changing seasons even as they are treated to an array of zippy verbs. Fleming's color-saturated handmade paper technique makes for dramatic tapestries that feature both sharp contrast and subtle shading. Scenes depicting clacking crawfish and parading geese are especially spirited. Ages 2-6. (Sept.)
In a starred review, PW praised the "stunning" spreads and "zippy" language of this peek at the life of a freshwater pond through the seasons; a Caldecott Honor book.

Children's Literature
I love Fleming's bold style which she achieves by pouring colored cotton pulp through hand-cut stencils. Her simple rhyming text accompanies illustrations that capture well the dynamic ecosystems of different environments. Creatures such as lunch-munching caterpillars and loop-swooping bats share space in this book as they do in the natural world.

의성어의 연못에 폭 빠져보실려면 이책을 권합니다

처음엔 의성어와 의태어가 어찌나 어렵고 거부감이 들더라구요

하지만 라임이 잘 맞아 떨어져 입에 붙으니 나중엔 아이에게 좀 더 재미나게

읽어 줄수 ..

한글자도 빠뜨리지 않아요...

참 신기해요....
책을 읽다가 의성어나 의태어가 나오면 솔직히
낯설어 그냥 넘어 갈 때가 있어요...
그때마다 아이는 놓치지 않고 페이지를 못 넘기게
하고선 꼭 읽고 넘기네요...

이런게 아이와 저와의 다..
