Annotation
Excited about holding onto his position as the best speller in the second grade, Pinky has an embarrassing accident but is cheered up by his best friend Rex.
From the Publisher
At the third-grade spelling bee, Pinky soon discovers that misspelling a word isn't the most embarrassing thing that can happen in front of the whole class. Full color.
Children's Literature
Since I am a rotten speller, I shared Rex's dread when she realized that the class would be holding a spelling bee. Pinky, on the other hand, was a good speller and was looking forward to the event. As expected, Rex misspells a simple word and gets to sit down. Pinky is on a roll, but for the first time a new kid in class offers some real competition. Pinky starts to get nervous and can't eat lunch--he drinks lots of milk and juice. When the spelling bee resumes, Pinky is a star but he has a terrible accident. How can he face his classmates. Rex proves that she is indeed a good friend and helps Pinky get through "the worst day of his life." Part of the "Ready-To-Read" series, Level 3. 1999 (orig. - Marilyn Courtot
