첫 페이지를 열면 조그만 갈색 생쥐가 여행용 가방에 짐을 싸고 있습니다. 생쥐는 세계 일주 여행을 떠나려고 하네요.
생쥐가 사는 동네에는 빨간집, 파란집, 녹색집, 그리고 조그만 트리하우스가 있네요. 생쥐는 어디서 살고 있을까요?
온갖 색깔의 예쁜 꽃들이 피어있는 정원을 지나, 버스를 타고 가다가, 어느 집에 들여 포도 한 알을 얻어 먹습니다.
잠수복을 입고 깊은 바닷속도 구경하고,
배를 타고 바다를 건너다가, 그만 배가 침몰하기도 하네요.
아이들이 타고 가는 자전거를 얻어타기도 하고, 기차를 타고 가기도 합니다.
큰 도시에 도착해서는 호텔에 묵기도 하는데, 옆 건물은 개들을 위한 개호텔(Dogtel)이 있네요.
열기구풍선을 타고 바람 부는대로 하늘 높이 날아가기도 하고,
비가 그친 후 무지개가 뜬 하늘을 헬리콥터를 타고 가기도 합니다.

이제 여행을 마치고 집으로 돌아온 생쥐는 도르레로 만든 승강기를 타고 트리하우스로 올라갑니다.
생쥐는 여행하면서 찍은 사진들과 기념품들, 그리고 포스터 등으로 처음 출발할 때는 휑했던 방 안을 예쁘게 장식합니다.

각 페이지마다 숨어 있는 작은 생쥐를 찾아보는 재미도 쏠쏠하고, 책의 앞뒤 표지 안쪽에 있는 24개의 뺏지가 어느 페이지의 그림과 일치하는지 맞춰 보는 것도 또 다른 재미를 줍니다. 아울러 여러 색깔들, 교통수단들, 동물들, 숫자 등의 기본 컨셉도 자연스럽게 배울 수 있습니다.
