그루팔로를 비롯해서 수많은 베스트셀러 그림책 작가인 줄리아 도널드슨이 글을 쓰고, 역시 베스트셀러인 "Iggy Peck, Architect"와 "Rosie Revere, Engineer"의 일러스트레이터인 데이비드 로버츠가 그림을 그렸습니다. 베스트셀러 작가들이 힘을 합쳐 만든 재미있는 그림책입니다.

옛날 옛적에 배고픈 왕이 살았습니다. 왕이 항상 배고픈 이유는 요리사들이 만든 음식들이 한결같이 왕의 마음에 들지 않았기 때문입니다. 수많은 요리사들을 고용해 봤지만 상황은 나아지지 않았습니다. 그러다 왕은 자신이 먹고 싶어하는 생선과 감자요리를 해줄 수 있는 워블리 밥이라는 요리사를 만나게 됩니다. 하지만 문제는 워블리 밥은 겁쟁이라는 점입니다.

생선 요리에 필요한 물고기를 잡기 위해 왕과 워블리 밥은 배를 타고 바다로 나갔는데, 워블리 밥은 그물에 상어가 잡힐지도 모른다며 무서워하기 때문에 할 수 없이 왕이 물고기를 잡았습니다.

감자를 캐기 위해 밭에 나갔는데, 워블리 밥은 땅 속에 지렁이와 개미가 있을 수 있다며 무서워하기 때문에 할 수 없이 왕이 감자를 캤습니다.

재료들을 칼로 썰고 손질해야 하는데, 워블리 밥은 칼에 베일까봐 무서워하자 왕은 할 수 없이 직접 재료들을 칼로 손질했습니다.

이제 기름에 튀기면 되는데, 이번에도 워블리 밥은 기름이 튈까봐 무서워해서 할 수 없이 왕이 직접 재료들을 기름에 튀겼습니다.

드디어 맛있는 생선과 감자튀김이 완성되고, 왕은 맛있게 음식을 먹었습니다. 왕은 워블리 밥이 비록 겁쟁이지만, 그의 요리(?)가 너무 맛있어서 워블리 밥을 궁중 요리사로 채용했습니다.
