화자(narrator)가 말하기를 악어 악어 스냅시는 왠지 발걸음도 무겁고, 피부는 헐렁헐렁한 것 같고, 꼬리는 제멋대로 좌우로 움직이는 등 낮잠을 잘 필요가 있어 보인다고 소개하자, 악어 스냅시는 자신은 단지 배가 고플 뿐이라고 주장합니다.

그러자 화자(narrator)는 스냅시가 허기를 채우기 위해 작은 새와 토끼들을 사냥하러 돌아다닌다고 소개하자, 악어 스냅시는 자신은 사냥을 하지 않고 필요한 음식은 대형마트에서 산다고 항변합니다.

그러자 화자(narrator)는 스냅시가 피클, 프렛젤, 피어(배), 피넛버터, 피타빵, 파스타 , 팝콘 등을 카트에 담는 것을 봐서는 P로 시작하는 음식만 좋아한다고 하자, 악어 스냅시는 이는 단지 우연의 일치이며 자신은 이외에도 체다치즈나 애플 등 다른 알파벳으로 시작하는 음식들도 좋아한다고 주장합니다.

이런 식으로 이 책에서는 화자(narrator)가 각각의 페이지에 묘사된 그림을 보고 스냅시의 특성이나 행동들에 대해 소개하면, 스냅시는 계속해서 자신은 전혀 그렇지 않으며, 화자(narrator)의 주장은 악어에 대한 편견에서 나온 말이라고 항변합니다.

결국 스냅시는 자신에 대한 좋지 않은 편견을 바로 잡기 위해 동물 친구들을 초대해서 파티를 열기로 하고...
