Lunch Lady and the Breakfast Bunch are on a school field trip to a famous art museum. The irrepressible Lunch Lady is at it again! When a parent volunteer calls in sick, the Lunch Lady is asked to accompany a class to the art museum as a chaperone. Upon arrival, the director, Dr. Fraudwa (foreshadowing here!), welcomes them to the museum and we know there is bound to be trouble. The Breakfast Bunch, three children who always hang out together, slip away from the class to explore their favorite parts of the museum and their curiosity (and clumsiness) reveal that quite a few pieces in the museum are fakes. Dr. Fraudwa has the children locked away so they cannot tell anyone about his scheme. Little does he know the Lunch Lady and her cohort, Betty (the other school cafeteria server), are hot on the children's trail and armed with tools no cook should be without: the spatu-copter, the spork phone, GPS gum, a ziti microscope, and a carrot thumb drive. The evil Dr. Fraudwa and his lackeys are captured and put in jail, left to simmer in the consequences of their crimes. Meanwhile, the Breakfast Bunch and Lunch Lady are chastised by the teacher for missing the trip. Children will love Lunch Ladies' spy tools, energy, whacky sense of humor and broad knowledge, which are totally missed by the adults around them. The graphics, all done in crisp colors of black, white, gray and yellow, are expressive, humorous, and appealing. Young readers will always question the real lives of the often somber-faced servers behind the lunch counter after getting hold of this series. |
