너무나도 유명한 If You Give a Mouse a Cookie의 연작입니다. 밝고 귀여운 Felica Bond의 그림과 간결하면서도 유머러스한 Numeroff의 문장이 조화를 이루는 그림책입니다.
착한 소녀는 지나가는 나그네 새끼돼지에게 팬케이크를 건네줍니다. 하지만 새끼 돼지는 팬케이크 위에 시럽을 뿌려서 먹기를 원하고, 소녀가 메이플 시럽을 뿌려주자, 새끼 돼지는 접시의 바닥까지 맛있게 핥아 먹습니다. 팬케이크를 다먹은 돼지는 온 몸에 묻은 끈적끈적한 시럽을 씻어내기 위해 목욕 하기를 원하고, 욕조에서 비누거품과 물에 뜨는 오리 장난감을 달라고 합니다. 오리 장난감을 본 돼지는 갑자기 고향의 동물농장이 그리워지고... 마치 도미노와 같이 한 가지 일이 새로운 일을 불러 일으키는 이야기가 재미있게 펼쳐집니다.

One thing leads to another: pancakes to syrup, syrup to stickiness, stickiness to a bath, a bath to a rubber duck, the duck to homesickness for the pig's farm, homesickness to packing for the trip, packing to finding tap shoes, tap shoes to performing a dance, the dance to taking photos--and eventually to another plate of pancakes. The wild gyrations of the plot will delight children as much as the clean, orderly lines and clear, gentle color of the artwork.
