큰 소에게 "꺼져 버려"라는 거친 말을 들은 송아지는 기분이 불쾌해졌습니다. 토끼, 거북이, 닭 등 다른 동물친구들이 같이 놀자고 하자, 기분이 언짢았던 송아지는 친구들에게 거친 말을 쏟아 냅니다.

토끼에게는 "싫어"라고 소리지르고,
닭에게는 비웃듯이 "겁쟁이"라고 비웃고,
거북이에게는 "굼벵이"라고 놀립니다.
아기 돼지에게는 "돼지같은 놈"이라고 무시하고,
벌에게는 "꺼져버려"라고 소리지르고,
스컹크에게는 냄새난다고 소리지릅니다.

지나가던 염소가 이런 송아지의 언행을 보고는 못마땅해서 한마디 합니다. "Bully"

Bull은 황소를 의미하고, 여기서 파생된 단어인 Bully는 깡패라는 뜻이 있지요.

송아지가 염소에게 "참견 마"라고 겁을 주지만 염소는 지지 않고 더 큰 소리로 외칩니다. "BULLY!"

그제서야 자신이 친구들에게 한 짓이 얼마나 무례하고 건친 행동이었는지 깨달은 송아지는 갑자기 정신이 번쩍 들었습니다. 친구들을 찾아가서는 진심으로 사과하고 같이 놀자고 먼저 청하네요. 친구들은 진심으로 잘못을 뇌우치는 송아지의 사과를 받아 들이고 함께 놀기로 합니다...

어린 독자들로 하여금 친구들을 힘으로 억누르려고 하거나 거친 말을 하는 것이 얼마나 잘못된 행동인지를 깨닫게 해주는 내용입니다.
