Two toddler favorites get their due in a pair of board books by Leslie Patricelli: Binky and Blankie. Bold black outlines and rounded shapes give the pages a reassuring air, even as the toddler hero searches in vain for the title binky, or enumerates all the things one can do with a blankie (including playing superhero). Thick brushstrokes in bright colors provide an alluring backdrop.

The binky is lost and must be found in Binky before our little one can go down for a nap. In Blankie, our little one is extolling the virtues of a blankie. A blankie can listen to stories with you, can hide you when you are frightened, and is the perfect buddy for just about everything. The bright, primary art is an ideal accompaniment to the no-frills text. These are just right for 1-3 year-olds.

Both of these board books feature an adorable, big-headed toddler, with a lone curl on the top of his head and wearing nothing but a diaper. In Binky, the youngster searches for a lost pacifier. In Blankie, the child tells readers about the importance of one's blanket. In both titles, the simple acrylic artwork, done with heavy black outline and set against bold background colors, places the protagonist center stage throughout.
