머리 위에 커다란 뿔이 난 무스사슴에게 큰 고민거리가 생겼습니다. 콧수염이 계속 자라더니 이제는 무스사슴이 도저히 혼자서 감당할 수 없는 지경에 까지 이르게 되었네요.
무스사슴이 춤을 추려고 하면 콧수염이 다리를 칭칭 감아버리고, 맛있는 수플레 요리를 하고 싶어도 수염 때문에 불을 붙일 수가 없고, 스키를 타고 내려올 때는 콧수염이 얼굴을 덮어 버리는 바람에 스키도 탈 수가 없었습니다.
도저히 이대로는 살 수 없다고 생각한 무스는 해결책을 찾아야 했습니다.
처음에는 콧수염을 목에 감아서 스카프같이 만들었습니다만, 수염들이 엉키더니 숨을 쉬기 어려워져서 콧수염스카프는 포기하고 간신히 엉킨 수염을 풀었습니다. 다음 방법으로는 콧수염을 커다란 뿔에 감아서 머리 위에 올렸습니다만, 이번에는 다람쥐들이 콧수염 뭉치로 이사를 와서는 하루 종일 시끄럽게 떠들어서 도저히 프라이버시 보호가 되지 않네요...
무스는 콧수염 문제를 해결하기 위한 다양한 방법을 모색하지만 번번히 실패하다가 놀라운 해결책을 갖고 있는 멋진 여자 친구를 만나게 됩니다...
그림과 글이 모두 유머러스해서 즐겁게 읽을 수 있는 책입니다.

There's hair everywhere in this book because Moose just doesn't know how to control his gigantic mustache. Palatini (Piggie Pie!, 1995) has concocted scores of inventive ways for Moose to manage his ``moosetache''--everything from wrapping it around his neck and hanging it from his antlers to braiding it. Each solution trips him up worse than the last until he meets his match, the superbly coiffed Ms. Moose who shares her hairstyling secret--glue. They go wild, molding and tucking stupendous arrangements of hair, then skiing, cooking, and getting married with every hair in place. The playfulness between text and art make for a sophisticated romp; Cole creates hyperbolic spaghetti- like rivers of hair and bold bouffants. While kids will giggle at the absurdities, adults may raise an eyebrow at a scene of the couple's ``hot'' cooking. A riot.

Moose has an unruly "moosetache" that interferes with his skiing, his cooking, and his dancing. Rather than cut it, he tries tying it and parting it until?in shades of Dr. Seuss's Thidwick?a family of squirrels moves in. When he meets a female moose who has solved her own long hair problems with glue, it's a match made in heaven. The text is wordy and relies heavily on exclamations in assorted typefaces at different angles to create a sense of movement. Unfortunately, the busy cartoon illustrations don't convey the same liveliness. Not every moose can be Bullwinkle, but this moose isn't cute or funny, and his predicament gets old very quickly.

No matter how Moose braids, coils and nets his wiry "moosetache," he winds up with a hair don't. His Rapunzel-length locks snag his ankles, dangle from his antlers and sometimes obscure his face altogether. "Then, call it fate, call it destiny (it was probably dumb luck), but one day Moose tripped on his moosetache and just had no time to duck." He crashes into the female moose of his dreams, who teaches him to glue his 'stache into manageable twirls. In the suitably sappy finale, the moose twosome vows to stick together through "Good hair days. Bad hair days." The exact nuances of Palatini's (Piggie Pie!) wordplay might elude preschoolers, but the fun is unmistakable: "Moose was in a frizzy tizzy. The moosetache was completely crimping his style." She uses rhyme and alliteration without sticking to a predictable rhythm ("He simply could not flambe his souffle with all of those whiskers in the way"), and invents numerous knotty hair dilemmas. Cole (Four Fabulous Foxes and Fosdyke) exaggerates Moose's whiskers and aggrieved facial expressions; meanwhile, key words appear in bold font and sentences reel irrepressibly across the pages. The text and illustrations exude bouncy energy, but the piece de resistance is on the back cover: a "My Moosetache" mirrored surface allows readers to see themselves with a furry handlebar mustache. |

 그림이 상당히 재미있어요 |
그림이 상당히 재미있어 보여서 구입해 봤는데 역시 웃기네요. 글은 생각보다 적지않아서 조금 아쉽기는 하지만 그래도 그림이 워낙 재미있어서 아이가 재미있게 봅니다. 브러쉬와 머리 빗 가위에도 눈 코 입 팔 다..
그림이 상당히 재미있어 보여서 구입해 봤는데 역시 웃기네요. 글은 생각보다 적지않아서 조금 아쉽기는 하지만 그래도 그림이 워낙 재미있어서 아이가 재미있게 봅니다. 브러쉬와 머리 빗 가위에도 눈 코 입 팔 다리가 있구요. 아주 길게 자란 콧 수염으로 인해 생기는 에피소드들이 너무 재미있어요. 그러다 여자 무스를 만나게 되는데 여자 무스의 모습도 인상적이네요. 아주 재미있게 봤어요.

서평도 많지 않고, 익숙한 작가도 아니고 해서
살까 말까하며 몇 번 망설이다가,
그림이 재미있어 호기심에 구입해서 읽어줬답니다.
하하, 엄청 재미있어요. ^^

살까 말까하며 몇 번 망설이다가,
그림이 재미있어 호기심에 구입해서 읽어줬답니다.
하하, 엄청 재미있어요. ^^
주인공 무스 사슴, 계속 자라는 콧수염 때문에 보통 난감한게 아닙니다.
춤을 출 수도, 요리를 할 수도, 스키를 탈 수도 없게 하는 수염 때문에
다양한 해결책을 찾아 나서죠.
스카프처럼 목에 감아도 보고, 길게 땋아도 보고,
뿔에 감아 올려도 보고, 심지어 그물까지 쳐보지만...계속 실패만 하네요.
상황에 난감해 하는 무스 사슴의 표정에 절로 미소가 납니다. ^^
그러던 어느 날!
멋진 해결책을 알려주는 여자 친구를 만나게 되고,
그 해결책 덕에 여자친구와 결혼도 하고 2세도 낳네요.
책 말미에 아기 무스 사슴들의 헤어스탈이 인상적이에요. ㅋㅋ
많은 형용사들과 좀 많다 싶은 글밥으로
초등생 이상이 적당할 듯 싶지만...
유머러스한 그림만으로도 내용 파악이 될 듯 합니다.

 너무나 재밌는 그림 |
하지만 5세에서 9세가 읽기엔 글밥도 많지만 단어 자체도 어려운 단어들이 많네요.
bodacious 라든가 outrageous 라든가...어려워요. 흑
저도 잘 모르는 단어가 곳곳에..ㅡㅡ;;
아이에게 읽어주려면 제가 공부..
