My Heart Is Like a Zoo, Perfect Square, 그리고 Cat Tale 등 뉴욕타임즈 베스트셀러 그림책 작가인 마이클 홀의 작품입니다.

학교에서 휴식시간에 알파벳 L, V, E, O가 그네를 타러 갔습니다.

그네는 4개가 있었는데, 처음에 도착한 L은 다음에 도착한 V에게 4개의 그네를 알파벳 순서 중 L 근처에 있는 친구들을 위해 미리 맡아 두었기 때문에 알파벳 순서 중 뒷부분에 있는 V는 탈 수 없다고 심술을 부리네요.

하지만 L친구들이 오지 않자, L과 V는 함께 그네를 타고 있는데, E가 와서 함께 그네를 타자고 합니다. 하지만 V는 E에게 모음은 탈 수 없다고 합니다.

이제는 L, V, E가 함께 그네를 타는데, 가장 늦게 도착한 O가 남은 한개의 그네를 타려고 하자, E가 O에게 곡선으로 된 알파벳은 탈 수 없다고 합니다.

결국 L, V, E, O는 화해를 하고 사이좋게 그네를 탑니다. 점점 속도를 내면서 하늘 높이 오르자, 앞뒤 순서가 바뀌면서 VELO가 되기도 하고, OVLE가 되기도 했다가, 결국은 LOVE가 되면서 그네타기를 멈춥니다.

이 책을 보면서 아이들 사이에서 이런 따돌림이 상대방에게 얼마나 상처를 주는지 느껴 볼 수 있으며, 서로 함께 나누고 상대방을 배려하고 친구들을 친절하게 대하는 것이 얼마나 중요한지도 깨닫게 됩니다.
