[ 책 소개 ]
봄이 오자 지니아는 화단을 가꾸기로 합니다.
우선 삽으로 땅을 파고, 돌들을 골라낸 후, 갈귀로 땅을 평평하게 고릅니다.
5월이 되자 열을 맞춰 씨를 뿌리고, 흙을 덮어 준 후, 흠뻑 물을 줍니다. 그리고 따뜻한 햇빛을 받고 비를 맞으면서 새싹들이 땅을 뚫고 솟아 나오기를 기다립니다.
씨를 뿌린 후 2주가 지난 어느날, 지니아는 땅을 뚫고 솟아 오른 조그맣고 예쁜 새싹들을 발견합니다.
5월 말이 되자 지니아가 뿌린 씨앗들이 무럭무럭 자라서 화단을 가득 채우고 있습니다.
6월 중순이 지나면서 날씨가 점점 뜨거워 지자 지니아는 목말라하는 화초들에게 매일매일 물을 줍니다.
7월 초에 지니아는 화단에 자라난 잡초들을 뽑아 주고, 해충들은 없는지 주의깊게 살펴봅니다.
7월 말이 되자 화단에 있는 화초들은 꽃봉우리를 맺기 시작합니다. 그리고 마침내 지니아가 정성을 들이고 키워 온 화초들이 아름다운 꽃을 활짝 피웁니다.
8월이 되자 지니아의 화단은 온갖 꽃들이 가득하고, 나비와 꿀벌들은 꽃 사이로 날아 다닙니다. 지니아는 꽃밭에서 책도 읽고, 그림도 그리며, 피크닉도 즐깁니다.
지니아는 꽃들을 꺾어서 부케도 만들고, 화단에서 레모네이드 일일가게도 열어서 손님들에게 꽃들을 나눠 주기도 합니다.
가을이 되고 꽃이 지자 지니아는 다음 해를 위해 화단에서 씨앗들을 모읍니다....
