Children's Literature
The simple sentences in this book focus on the verb "to see." The vocabulary is controlled and similar to the earlier Dick and Jane type of reader. The colorful watercolor pictures add interest to a rather limited story. However, children who are just beginning to read would probably be thrilled to be able to read a whole book like this to themselves or a sympathetic listener. PreS-Gr 1Karlin tells a slight story in which the same few words are used in several different ways. Two jaunty kittens explore a field and discover a can, a saw, a bee, a sea, a seasaw, etc. They then take great pleasure in playing with those wordsfor example, one says, "I see, you saw." "No. I see, you saw. I saw the seasaw first!" None of the dialogue is attributed and the tongue-twisting sentences make little sense even when they are read correctly.
