Book Description
Inventive first concept books for babies and toddlers who are just discovering the world around them -- in all its color and contrast!
What color are strawberries? Bananas? Grapes? Flip the pages to find out! What happens when you mix these and other wonderful colors together? Peek in the bowl on the last spread for a tasty surprise.
Children's Literature
Red strawberries, orange oranges, yellow bananas, green apples, blue blueberries and purple grapes all have a page in this die cut board book. Flip to the last page and you have a colorful bowl of fruit salad ready to eat. A delicious way to learn colors and recognize a very healthy food group. The illustrations created in watercolor and crayon are strong and simple. Part of the "Look Inside!" series.
School Library Journal
In Strawberries, listeners are introduced to various fruits on double-page spreads that feature boldly hued watercolor-and-crayon artwork. "Strawberries are red./Oranges are orange." However, "Apples are green" may give some youngsters pause, as may "Grapes are purple." The final spread has a die-cut opening showing all of the fruits with the caption: "Look at all the colors in my fruit salad!" Similarly, in Black and White, listeners are told "The night is black./The snow is white." The pages become progressively smaller; on the final spread, the text reads: "The zebra is black and white" and the truncated edges form its stripes. The uncomplicated illustrations use bright energetic colors. Suitable choices for lap sharing and toddler programs.
Child Magazine
These two board books offer inventive introductions to the concepts of color and contrast. Your child will delight in the surprises at the end -- die-cut pages that stack into a zebra (What Is Black and White?) and a bowl bursting with colorful fruit (Strawberries Are Red). |
