K-Gr 3-This basic introduction has an eye-catching cover featuring cool kids surfing above the Earth on keyboards. Though the book is simple in format, readers can gain much in reading the labels and studying the colorful computer-generated drawings. Jones explains what the Internet is and some of its many functions. Transparent overlays and cutouts are used to good effect. For example, a boy sending e-mail is pictured in New York City with a poster of Tokyo on his wall; turn the next page and the poster becomes the window of two children in Japan receiving his message. Both Lora Koehler's Internet (Children's, 1995; o.p.) and Charles A. Jortberg's The Internet (ABDO, 1997) have more information including chapters on bulletin boards and Web sites.
