Pinkerton's desperate owner sends him to obedience school, but he flunks out in record time. Then one night a burglar breaks into their house, and Pinkerton is able to put his bad habits to good use.

The exuberant Pinkerton defeats all the family's attempts to teach him to behave. He misinterprets every simple command from "come" to "fetch" and considers a burglar his best friend. After his fellow students at obedience school begin to follow Pinkerton instead of the teacher, he is summarily dismissed from school. In a series of wonderful illustrations, however, Pinkerton saves the day as his family issues mixed-up commands. He successfully chases a burglar out the window as his young owner shouts "Come!" The first book in a series begun in 1979, this book and other Pinkerton books are nursery school and family favorites. Preschoolers delight in the verbal and visual confusion and jokes. |
