The oversized cover of this beautifully designed edition is filled with a compelling, close-up portrait of Marie as she holds her Nutcracker close, with the title in metallic gold letters partially covered by Marie's flowing golden tresses. The illustrations closely follow the plot of the ballet, with the familiar progression of the party scene full of swirling skirts and the appearance of the Nutcracker, the battle scene with the defeat of the Mouse King and the journey to the magical Land of Sweets, filled with scenes of dancers in minty pastels and jeweled accents. An author's note offers information about the history of the ballet and the approach Jeffers followed in designing this lovely interpretation. 스토리야 원작이 있어서 워낙에 유명한거구요.
책 맨 끝에 작가의 note가 한 면 가득 서술돼 있는데, 이것까지 같이 읽는게 좋겠어요.
왜 수많은 버전의 'Nutcracker'가 있는데, 자신만의 버전으로 내야 했는가, 이 책을 내면서 중점을 둔 점은
무엇인가 등등이 있어서 작품 이해에도 더 도움이 될 듯 해요.
기본적으로 이 스토리가 발레에 뿌리를 두고 있다는데, 그래서 그런지 발레 동작들이 많이 나와요.
책장을 덮으면 멋진 발레 공연을 한 편 본 듯한 느낌이 들고 다시 한번 책장을 되넘기게 되네요.
이런 책은 꼭 하드커버로 구입해야겠어요.
페이퍼백으로는 뭔가 2% 부족한 느낌을 받게 될 것 같아요.
원작에 충실한 스토리를 즐기고 싶으면 Lisbeth Zwerger나 Maurice Sendak(모리스 샌닥) 버전으로
보라는 작가의 친절한 팁까지 있네요.
개인적으로 이 스토리에는 일러스트가 엄청나게 큰 비중을 차지하지 않을까... 하는 생각이예요.
후회 안 하실 거예요!

오늘 빌려다 보았습니다. 약간 어려운 듯하여 제가 먼저 읽어보고 아이에게 읽어주었는데요, 내용은 아는 이야기랑 비슷한것 같은데 그림이 역시 압권입니다. 제가 아는 이 작가의 책, 시애틀 추장이야기의 그림들은..
오늘 빌려다 보았습니다. 약간 어려운 듯하여 제가 먼저 읽어보고 아이에게 읽어주었는데요, 내용은 아는 이야기랑 비슷한것 같은데 그림이 역시 압권입니다. 제가 아는 이 작가의 책, 시애틀 추장이야기의 그림들은 웅장하고 멋있기만 한데 이 책에 나오는 그림들은 로맨틱하고 아름답다는 느낌이 드네요. 그런데 하드커버로 비싸게 나와서(물론 다른 곳보다는 싸겠지만요) 적극적으로 권하지는 못하겠네요. 페이퍼백이 있는지 잘 모르겠어요. 좋은 책이라 하드커버로 가지고 있으면 좋을 것 같기는 한데, 약간은 아이들보다는 엄마가 좋아하는 소장용 ^^책으로 될 수도 있을듯 해서요. 아름다운 그림책 모으시는 분들이라면 이 책 참 좋으실 거에요.

책 받아봤는데 기대했던대로 아주 좋네요.
후기대로 그림도 참 예쁘고 내용도 좋아서 이 가격이 하나도 아깝지 않은 책입니다.

크리스마스날 마리라는 소녀의 집에 손님들이 모여들기 시작하고 즐거운 댄스타임을 갖습니다.
그 때 초빙된 신사중 유명한 장난감제조가가 마리에게 호두까기인형을 선물합니다.
그 날밤, 마리는 호두까기 인형을 안은채 거실 쇼파에서 잠이드는데..
선물을 준 신사가 나타나서는 마리에게 마법가루를 뿌리지요.
그러자 마리의 몸이 작아지고 장난감 병정들이 되살아나고
호두까기 인형은 그 병정들을 지휘하는 병정이 되어 많은 생쥐들과 전투를 합니다.
그러다 생쥐의 공격으로 호두까기인형이 위험에 처하자 마리는 용감하게 뛰어들어
호두까기인형을 구하고 생쥐왕이 죽자 곧 기적같은 일이 벌어지는데...
역시나 로맨틱한 결말...ㅎ.ㅎ.
