각 페이지를 넘길 때마다 원, 세모, 초승달, 반원, 타원, 다이아몬드 등 도형 형태로 뚫려진 구멍들이 하나씩 추가되면서 마지막 페이지에는 멋진 공룡이 모습을 드러내는 신기한 책입니다.
첫 페이지에 뚫려 있는 조그만 두개의 원은 눈동자가 되고,
다음 페이지의 삼각형 구멍들은 이빨이 되고,
초승달 모양의 커다란 구멍은 이빨을 감싸는 입이 되고,
두개의 반원 모양 구멍은 두 눈이 되고,
커다란 타원형 구멍은 얼굴모습이 되고,
그리고 여러개의 다이아몬드 형태 구멍은 몸통의 비늘이 됩니다.
마지막 페이지를 옆으로 길게 펼치면 드디어 커다란 초식공룡이 브라키오사우루스의 모습이 완성되네요.

양장본이라고도 불리우며, 표지가 단단한 판지로 만들어진 책입니다.
판지를 천이나 가죽으로 감싸기도 합니다. 책의 속지는 일반적으로 중성처리된 종이(Acid-free paper)를 사용해서 잘 변질이 되지 않기 때문에 오랫동안 보관하기에 적합합니다. 이 종류의 책은 더스트 재킷, 또는 더스트 커버로 불리는 표지덮개가 함께 있는 경우가 많습니다. 간혹 내부 속지가 콩기름 코팅이 된 경우 고약한 냄새가 나는 책도 있습니다.

Introducing a series of basic shapes, die-cuts on sturdy square pages reveal, piece by piece, a friendly dinosaur. The colorful shapes - circle, triangle, crescent, semicircle, oval, and diamond - are presented on the inside cover, followed by the opening question: “Do you know who I am?” Each vibrantly colored left-hand page contains a bit of text, while the black right-hand pages feature the cutouts, each revealing a new aspect of the mystery beast, in the manner of Ed Emberley’s Go Away, Big Green Monster! (1993). A fold-out triple-page spread at the end shows the whole dinosaur, an appealingly rounded creature made up of all the various shapes, with the addition of a big red heart. The saturated colors, including four different shades of green, add to the appeal of this playful picture book. Small readers will probably focus more on the monster than the titular concept in this entertaining and modestly educational title. |
