This sentimental, neo-Victorian rendering of the Lord's Prayer does an injustice to the psalm it illustrates. Angelic 19th century children scamper through most of the volume, observing with reverence God's luminous creations. Then the phrase ``Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven'' is illustrated by a picture of three wistful tykes placing flowers on their mother's grave. Similarly, the phrase ``But deliver us from evil'' is accompanied by a terrifying scene of a post-apocalyptic landscape, glowing red while a lone child cowers in the foreground. Parents who want to strike some old-fashioned fear of damnation into their children will be well-served by this book; other familiesreligious or notshould steer clear. All ages.

This well-known illustrator adeptly "reads" between the prayer lines, with her accompanying twenty-two watercolors that depict sharing, caring, and hope. She richly details many illustrations with a host of animals near or with children.
