국내에는 "땅콩버터와 컵케이크"라는 제목으로 번역서가 출간된 베스트셀러 명작그림책 "Peanut Butter & Cupcake!"을 만든 테리 보더의 또 하나의 대표작입니다.

오늘은 컵케이크의 생일입니다. 컵케이크는 햄버거, 초콜렛, 도너츠, 아이스크림 같은 음식친구들을 초대해서 멋진 파티를 열고 싶어합니다. 그리고 무슨 파티를 열면 좋을지에 대한 자신의 아이디어에 대해 친구인 머핀에게 의견을 구합니다.

비치 파티은 어떨까? 하지만 머핀은 반대하네요. 뜨거운 햇빛 때문에 아이스크림이나 초콜렛같은 친구들은 녹을 수 있기 때문이지요.

보트를 빌려서 하는 선상파티는? 역시 머핀은 반대합니다. 배가 출렁거리면 수프같은 친구는 내용물들이 모두 넘쳐 흐를 수 있기 때문이지요.

달콤한 설탕크림과 반짝이는 스프링클로 꽃단장을 하는 Makeover 파티는? 역시 머핀은 반대합니다. 햄버거 같은 친구는 절대로 그런 달콤한 곷단장을 할 리 없다네요.

음악 소리에 맞춰 빙글빙글 돌며 즐겁게 춤을 추다가 음악소리가 멈추면 의자에 먼저 앉는 "Musical Chair Game" 파티와 "림보 게임" 파티 역시 머핀은 나름대로 이유를 대며 반대합니다.

컵케이크는 이제 더 이상 좋은 아이디어가 없다며 낙담하는데, 머핀은 자기 정원에 가서 쉬면서 생각해 보자고 합니다. 컵케이크가 머핀 정원으로 들어가는 문을 연 순간, 그곳에는 가장 완벽한 서프라이즈 생일파티가 준비되어 있네요... 아하! 머핀이 그토록 컵케이크의 파티계획을 반대한 이유가 있어네요.

What is 하드커버? 양장본이라고도 불리우며, 표지가 단단한 판지로 만들어진 책입니다. 판지를 천이나 가죽으로 감싸기도 합니다. 책의 속지는 일반적으로 중성처리된 종이(Acid-free paper)를 사용해서 잘 변질이 되지 않기 때문에 오랫동안 보관하기에 적합합니다. 이 종류의 책은 더스트 재킷, 또는 더스트 커버로 불리는 표지덮개가 함께 있는 경우가 많습니다. 간혹 내부 속지가 콩기름 코팅이 된 경우 고약한 냄새가 나는 책도 있습니다.
