Marly's father was a prisoner of war and was returned to his family after most people had lost hope. However, he is not the same as Marly remembers him. Marly and her family decide to spend the summer at Maple Hill. She has heard about her Grandmother's old house for as long as she can remember and always longed to go. Marly soon discovers that Maple Hill is as wonderful as she dreamed. It also seems that Maple Hill and the miracles her family discovers are just what her father needs. The story is a simple one of family. It focuses on themes of friendship, love and hope. Marly and her family come to the aid of a sick neighbor and learn what it means to live on a farm.
