알파벳 A에서 Z까지 대문자 소문자 모두를 배울 수 있는 책입니다. 책의 제목에서도 알 수 있듯이 딱딱한 주제를 아이들이 제일 좋아하는 과일과 야채와 연관지어 쉽고 재미있게 익힐 수 있습니다. 흔히 볼 수 있는 것부터 이국적인 과일과 야채를 각 특징을 잘 살려 그려 놓은 그림은 아이들의 시선을 단 번에 사로잡습니다.
A로 시작하는 여러 가지 과일과 야채로는 살구, 사과, 아스파라거스 등을 보여주고, B로 시작하는 것은 바나나, 브로콜리, 블루베리 등을 보여주며, C로 시작하는 것에는 오이, 샐러리, 옥수수 등을 보여주는 방식으로 A부터 Z까지 구성되어 있습니다. 또한 각 알파벳 문자는 굵고 선명하게 왼쪽 상단에 쓰여져 있으며, 각 과일과 야채의 명칭은 대문자와 소문자 모두로 표기해 놓았습니다.

표지가 두꺼운 판지나 보드지가 아닌 비교적 얇은 종이를 사용해서 만든 책이며, 실박음질 대신에 풀로 제본처리하는 경우가 많습니다. 일반적으로 하드커버나 보드북에 비해서 가격이 저렴합니다. 소프트커버로 불리우기도 합니다. 책의 이음새 부분이 접히거나 휘는 내구성이 그리 좋지는 않은 책입니다.

[ 작가 소개 ]
Lois Eherlt는 1934년에 Wisconsin의 Beaver Dam에서 태어났습니다. Lois는 Wisconsin Milwaukee에서 살며 장난감, 게임, 아이들의 옷, 포스터를 만드는데 자신의 예술적 재능을 발휘하고 있습니다. Layton school과 Wisconsin 대학에서 미술을 전공한 Lois는 대학 졸업 후 여러 작가들의 책에 삽화를 그리거나 그래픽 디자이너로 일하다가 1985년 Limericks by Lear에 삽화를 그리면서 그녀 자신의 작품을 쓰기 시작하늄윱求�.
대표작으로는 "Planting rainbow"와 Caldecott 수상작인 "Color Zoo" 등이 있습니다.

All too frequently, teachers tell me that colleagues strike alphabet books from their upper-grade library's order list. That's sad, for the best alphabet books are for everyone. For example with Ehlert's book you can share it as 1) a simply beautiful alphabet book, 2) a sampling of edible plants elementary grade youngsters can categorize (i.e. leaf or root, crunchy or slurpy, yellow or green), whose origins can be pinpointed on a map, or whose preparations reflect cultural similarities or differences, 3) a collection of fine watercolor collages, anyone can try, 4) an information book with glossary entries that are models of tightly constructed, information laden, two-to-four sentence paragraphs.
BookList
A board-book version of Ehlert's bright, bold alphabet book of fruits and vegetables, this is smaller than the original, but almost identical in content. Since the shape of the book remains the same, the layout and pictures are intact. The glossary is gone, but it will not be missed at this age level. The brilliant colors look even more vibrant on the glossy, laminated pages, though the illustrations lose some of their graphic punch when reduced in size. Still, a well-designed book for toddlers intrigued by parsnips, potatoes, peas, peppers, pumpkins, and the like. |
