Book Description
Young readers learn important first concepts with these oversized board books. The challenge of finding the plastic figure of a puppy, elephant, tricycle, or number to fit the die-cut shape will help build kids' confidence. Mixing fun with education, Find and Fit will give kids a head start on learning vital cognitive and motor skills.
Children's Literature
Everyday objects and places are identified and children are asked to search, sort and use hand-eye coordination to fit the included puzzle pieces into correlating spaces on each page. The numbers range from one to ten and some of the objects include trucks, party hats, and basic shapes. The tasks are simple and the easy questions promote learning first concepts such as colors, patterns and sounds along with counting. Most children enjoy hands-on activities and will quite enjoy the feeling of accomplishment they will get from this very easy-to-do puzzle book. Part of the "Find and Fit" series. - Trina Heidt
Children's Literature
Desmond the dog leads preschool and kindergarten children though various activities to learn and practice the math basics of counting to ten as well as addition and subtraction. Assorted manipulatives also are included, such as an abacus, dice, play coins and a magic pen. Unfortunately, these manipulatives also make this book hazardous for children under the age of three. Parents looking for an educational math toy will find this book fits the bill for four through six-year-olds. Concrete learners will have fun using the manipulatives to help Desmond count and solve the simple math problems. This is not a good purchase for public or school libraries due to the manipulatives that would soon disappear forever, but would be a good addition for a home collection. 1999, Silver Dolphin, Ages 4 to 6, $12.95.
