잠자리에 든 맥스는 잠이 오지 않으니까 혼자서 별 짓을 다하고 있군요. 인형에게 물을 먹이려다 쏟기도 하고, 침대에서 뛰다가 잠옷 주머니 속의 빵가루를 쏟는가 하면, 시계소리가 시끄럽다고 유리창 밖에 시계를 내놓기도 합니다. 침대 밑의 양말 냄새를 맡기도 하고 날아 다니는 파리와 신경전도 벌입니다. 그때마다 착한 루비는 맥스의 방에 와서 엎질러진 물을 닦고, 맥스의 잠옷을 갈아 입히고, 파리도 잡아주면서 맥스가 잠들 수 있도록 도닥거려 줍니다...
너무 어려서 아직 문장을 제대로 말하지 못하는 맥스가 외치는 소리는 때로는 심술궂게 들리기도 하지만, 얼굴 한번 찡그리지 않고 동생의 응석을 받아주는 루비... 정말 착한 누나입니다.

In this "touch and feel" board book, Ruby tries to get Max to go to sleep. After four pajama changes and the opportunity to touch a towel, crumbs, cherry-flavored nightcrawlers, a lace curtain, a fly swatter, and a teddy's tummy (among other items, fourteen in all), Max finally settles down for the night. Max's many detours on the way to bed will remind readers of Bedtime for Frances, but Wells' simple text and the chance to touch lots of items make this board book much more toddler-friendly.
