In this box with a blue ribbon, there are three delightful board books illustrated by Jane Dyer. The first, Animal Crackers: Animal Friends, is a collection of poems from some well-known poets (William Carlos Williams, Nancy Willard and Charlotte Pomerantz). Many others are poems that are not attributes to any author, but have made their way through generations. The second, Animal Crackers: Bedtime, is also filled with poems and rhymes that should soothe the little ones at bedtime or naptime. There are the classics?Wee Willie Winkie," "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod," along with newer poems by Jane Yolen, Clyde Watson and Thomas Decker. The third book in the set, Animal Crackers: Nursery Rhymes contains, for the most part, very familiar poems. In addition to the pure enjoyment of the rhythm and rhyme, some teach counting, days of the week, and encourage hand actions or joining in the refrain. What really makes these books are the watercolors with warmth, humor and things that will delight little ones. |
