The colored scribbles on the cover and Kipper sitting with a colored pencil in his hand will give kids a clue as to what is inside. A single word announcing the color (red, orange, purple, green, gray, blue white, yellow, black and brown) appears on the left page while Kipper and objects in that color are prominently featured on the right page. Inkpen has a great sense of humor and it sure comes through in his illustrations. I especially enjoyed the picture of Kipper dancing with his black shadow. Lovable Kipper is back, this time in four concept books. The beauty of these titles is in their simplicitybright primary colors and simple forms make them very appealing. In Colors, the brown-and-white dog flies a blue kite and eats red strawberries. In Numbers, he feeds four hens and digs holes with six moles. Opposites captures the happy-faced pup with a big balloon and his sad expression when it pops. Weather shows him basking in the sun and splashing in the rain. The lively watercolor illustrations lend themselves to simple one-on-one interaction or to use in toddler story hour.
