우리는, 흥부전을 보아도, 오래전부터 철새들의 이동을 알고 있었던 듯한데, 서양에선 몰랐었나봐요.
중세 서구인들은 청둥오리같은 물새들은 연못 아래 진흙 속에서 겨울잠을 잔다고 생각했다네요.
조류학자들(ornithologists)이 많은 것들을 밝혀냈다지만,
철새들의 이동에 대해서, 오늘날에도 안 밝혀진 것들이 많네요.
낮과 밤에도, 구름 낀 날에도 방향을 알아보는 것은 신기하네요.

엄지손가락 크기밖에 안 되는 허밍버드가 500마일을 한 번도 쉬지 않고 난다는 사실도 대단해요.
철새들 이름도 익힐 수 있었네요.

 정말 유익한 책입니다. |
철새의 이름이 어려워서 생각보다 힘들었던 책입니다. 하지만 전 세계를 무대로 활동하는(?) 철새만을 따로 다룬 책은 다른 전집에서도 본 적이 없네요. 가을이면 하늘을 가로 질러 줄을 지어 날아가던 철새들이 이..
철새의 이름이 어려워서 생각보다 힘들었던 책입니다. 하지만 전 세계를 무대로 활동하는(?) 철새만을 따로 다룬 책은 다른 전집에서도 본 적이 없네요. 가을이면 하늘을 가로 질러 줄을 지어 날아가던 철새들이 이제는 어디로 가는지, 왜 가는지, 어떻게 길을 잃지 않고 찾아가는지 우리 꼬맹이도 알게 될 것 같아요.
자세한 새의 그림과, 세계 지도를 곁들인 친절한 설명이 돋보이는 책입니다.

과학이라는게.. 우리 일상생활에 곳곳이 숨어 있어서.. 창작이나 명작처럼 책만 읽고 끝내기엔 너무.. 아깝지요.. 왜 철새라는게 생겼는지 아이에게 접근하려면.. 지도가 필요할거 같아서.. 남반구와 북반구를 오고 가며 재밌게 읽었습니다.. 자칫 딱딱할 수 있는 책인데.. 울 아들 지도 꺼내놓으니까 우선 얼굴이 환해 지더라고요.. 이 시리즈의 매력은 일상생활에서 그냥 지나칠수 있는걸 가르쳐 주는거 같습니다.
