This is one in a series of “Go Diego Go!” books, based on a popular children’s program of the same name that is a spin-off of “Dora the Explorer.” Like the other books in the series, it encourages children to be interactive with the books by using Spanish words and commands to progress the story. After using Spanish commands to guide Diego and his Rescue Pack, the child reader is able to fold out flaps to reveal what the Rescue Pack has transformed into. Accompanied by one final pop-up page, you now have the total licensed-character-novelty-book package, very popular with young children. Though interesting to young children who are fans of the series, the book lacks usefulness for the classroom, other than providing a very limited knowledge of where certain animals might live in the world. Use as an instructional tool for Spanish words comes up short as well, as only one or two Spanish words appear throughout the book. Choose instead a quality children’s book translated into Spanish. For the child who cannot get enough Diego, find another book in the series with more educational content.
