돼지는 뚱뚱하고 더럽고 탐욕스럽다는 부정적인 이미지가 강한 동물입니다. 하지만 이 책은 몬티라는 숫돼지를 통해 돼지가 사실은 얼마나 사랑스럽고, 영리하며, 센시티브한 동물인지를 Guess How Much I Love You의 Illustrator인 Anita Jeram의 사실적인 그림과 함께 쉽고 재미있게 설명해 줍니다.
이 책은 우리에게 잘 알려져 있지 않은 돼지에 관한 다양한 Facts들을 수록하고 있습니다. 예를 들면, 돼지는 보통 한 배에 8~12마리의 새끼를 낳는데, 각각의 새끼들은 자신의 젖꼭지를 정해서 항상 한 젖꼭지에서만 젖을 먹습니다. 어미가 새끼를 배면, 3개월 3주 3일만에 출산을 합니다. 돼지는 다양하게 의사소통을 할 수 잇으며, 돼지의 내부장기는 인간과 매우 흡사하다고 합니다. 그리고 우리가 일반적으로 생각하는 것과는 달리 돼지는 매우 깨끗한 것을 좋아하며, 자신의 잠자리를 배설물로 더럽히지 않는다고 합니다.
작가는 돼지와 인간이 많은 면에서 비슷하지만, 커다란 차이점은 - 인간은 잘생기거나 평범하게 생겼거나 못생기는 등 다양한 모습을 하고 있지만, 돼지는 모두 아름답다고 주장하네요^^

표지가 두꺼운 판지나 보드지가 아닌 비교적 얇은 종이를 사용해서 만든 책이며, 실박음질 대신에 풀로 제본처리하는 경우가 많습니다. 일반적으로 하드커버나 보드북에 비해서 가격이 저렴합니다. 소프트커버로 불리우기도 합니다. 책의 이음새 부분이 접히거나 휘는 내구성이 그리 좋지는 않은 책입니다.
