아이는 사자가 되고 싶은 꿈을 이루기 위해 ‘사자 자격증’을 따려고 사자 학원에 갑니다. 학원에서는 사자가 되기 위해 필요한 7단계 수업을 진행합니다.

비록 1단계에서 7단계까지 수업을 받는 중에는 실제 사자에 비해 점수가 형편없이 낮았지만, 마지막 7단계에서 아이의 친구인 고양이가 위험에 처하자 아이는 실제 사자와 같은 능력을 발휘해서 개로부터 고양이를 구해줍니다.

이 책은 아이들에게는 자신의 꿈과 상상이 이루어지는 이야기이고, 사자 학원에서 펼쳐지는 재치만점 수업들은 그 자체로 흥미진진해서 끊임없는 미소와 웃음을 유발합니다. 또한 부모에게는 교육이란 무엇인지, 아이에게 가장 핵심적으로 전해 주어야 할 가치가 무엇인지 묻는 그림책이기도 합니다.
