낸시의 여동생 조조는 말썽꾸러기입니다. 할머니와 백화점에 가서 진열된 옷 속에 숨어 있었던 적도 있고, 부활절 달걀을 그리기 위한 물감을 튜브에 풀어 놓고는 반려견 프랜치를 빠트린 적도 있고, 여름에 크리스마스 트리를 만든답시고 아빠 면도크림을 몽땅 나무 위에 뿌린 적도 있었지요.

그런데 오늘은 조조가 그동안 저지른 일 중에서 최악중의 최악을 저질렀어요. 낸시가 가장 아끼는 인형 미라벨의 배에다가 지워지지 않는 유성 매직으로 해적 상징인 해골그림을 그렸네요. 그걸 본 낸시는 절규하고, 울부짖고, 졸도할 지경이었어요. 엄마는 인형 옷을 입히면 해골 그림은 보이지 않을 거라며, 절망감에 빠진 낸시를 달래보았지만, 낸시는 자기 최애 인형이 더럽혀진 것 같아서 참을 수가 없었지요.

이런 낸시의 기분을 돌리기 위해 엄마가 생각해낸 아이디어는 바로 신문 광고에 실린 "인형 갈라 파티"에 참석하는 것. 인형 갈라파티는 또래 친구들이 인형과 함께 근사한 호텔의 연회장에서 열리는 파티에 참석해서 사진도 찍고, 새로운 인형 옷도 입혀보며, 인형들을 티파티 테이블에 앉혀서 소꼽놀이도 합니다. 그리고 아이들도 맛있는 디저트가 가득한 티파티를 합니다. 신나게 인형 갈라파티를 즐기던 낸시는 갑자기 미라벨에게 뭔가 이상한 일이 생긴 것을 알아챕니다. 한쪽 눈은 짝짝이고,뒷통수의 머리카락은 듬성듬성 빠져 있고... 놀란 낸시는 인형 옷을 벗겨보니 배에 해골 그림이 보이지 않았어요. 누군가의 인형과 바뀐 것이었어요!

결국 사회자가 마이크를 들고 모두에게 인형 배를 확인해볼 것을 부탁하고, 해골 그림 덕택에 낸시는 무사히 미라벨을 돌려 받을 수 있었지요. 결국 조조의 장난 때문에 인형을 되찾게 된 낸시는 조조의 사과를 받아들이기로 합니다.
